Antimicrobial Surface Protection

Keeping WA Safe

Footprint Creative’s sister company (Creative Surface Protection) specializes in the installation of Antimicrobial Film Technology. This film not only acts as a form of surface protection but is also packed with amazing antimicrobial properties that can kill up to 98% of bacteria without regular cleaning and human intervention.

What is PUREZONE?

Purezone is a clear antimicrobial protective film packed with amazing technology that helps fight against bacteria and viruses, reducing the need for regular cleaning and sanitation.

Silver-ion manufactured within the film kills bacteria & viruses and is confirmed to be 98% active against SARS-CoV-2

Why is it
important?

In the current settings, stopping thespread of germs is more important than ever. Purezone is suitable for almost any surface and high traffic areas such as door handles, touch screens, tables, benches, and hand railings. It is active 24/7, reducing the need for regular cleaning and sanitation for up to five years.

How Does it Work?

Antimicrobial Film

When the PVC film is manufactured, Silver-ions encapsulated in a glass matrix are distributed over the film in a uniform manner.
During cleaning operations, as well as in the presence of humidity, Silver-ions are released from the top layer of the film. These ions come into contact with the bacteria, blocking their metabolism and/or interrupting their proliferation mechanism, which leads to their destruction.

Antimicrobial Surface Protection

Silver-ions alter the bacterial and viral cell walls, and when they are transported into a cell, they bind with proteins and interfere with energy production, enzyme function, and cell replication. Silver-ions are active on a broad spectrum of bacteria.

Case Study

Basel University Hospital (Switzerland)

News / 2020, 8 April

Basel University Hospital confirms high efficacy of antimicrobial coating on adhesive films

In a clinical study that lasted several months, the effectiveness of antimicrobial treated surfaces against hospital pathogens was examined under real conditions at the University Hospital of Basel in Switzerland. The research team, led by Prof. Dr. Andreas Widmer and Dr. R. Frei, confirmed that the jointly developed HEXIS SAS Sanitized® treated PURE ZONE® adhesive film has 98% effectiveness against microbes. The results were first published in the peer-reviewed scientific journal "Antimicrobial Resistance & Infection Control". The study was supported by Innosuisse, the Swiss innovation agency. A case study at the University Hospital Basel led by Prof. Andreas Widmer and Dr R. Frei addressed the question of whether and how effectively HEXIS SAS PURE ZONE® antimicrobial adhesive film works against the cause of this disease. commonly known as nosocomial infections (HAIs). In this study, it is the adhesive film PURZON060B, commercially available from HEXIS SAS, which was tested; a flexible and transparent product with an active ingredient based on silver ions supplied by SANITIZED.

Study setting: frequently touched surfaces, with and without antimicrobial coating

A real situation was created by concentrating the study on frequently touched surfaces in six patient rooms, three in the surgical department and three in the medical department. Specifically, overbed tables, bedside tables, patient chair armrests, dining tables, toilet seats, and flush handles have been included. The Sanitized® treated PURZON060B film was applied to half of the surface, while the other half remained in its original state and served as a control surface. During the study, which lasted several months, the patient rooms were cleaned normally once a day and the bathrooms were disinfected once a day. Samples of treated and untreated surfaces were taken twice a week over an area of 25 cm 2 and subjected to analysis for microorganisms. The number of microbes was determined by plating on culture media, and the isolates were examined for clinically relevant pathogens such as Staphylococcus aureus (including MRSA).

Long-term effect: A clear and significant reduction in pathogens

A total of 403 samples were analyzed. HEXIS SAS Sanitized® treated PURZON060B film resulted in a reduction in the total number of viable germs of 98.4% on the six different surface types. The greatest reduction was measured on the toilet seats and on the flush handles (99%). In addition, scientists have confirmed a very significant reduction in pathogens, especially enterococci. Their multidrug-resistant strains can survive on dry surfaces for up to four years and they were responsible for a nationwide epidemic in Swiss hospitals in 2017, which could only be contained after two years. The long-term effect of the Sanitized® PURZON060B treated adhesive film from HEXIS SAS was confirmed by repeating the measurement after six months. “A durable antimicrobial surface supports hygiene management in hospitals and care facilities,” explains Michael Lüthi, CEO of SANITIZED AG . “The results of the study show that surfaces treated with antimicrobials can make a valuable contribution to preventing the spread of multidrug-resistant pathogens in hospitals. Even daily surface disinfection cannot prevent recontamination within hours - antimicrobial surfaces can fill this gap. », Explains Prof. Dr. Andreas Widmer . “For our PURE ZONE® antimicrobial adhesive film, we cooperated with SANITIZED AG. Hospitals, residences for the elderly and care establishments thus benefit from decades of experience and of the highest quality ”, explains Clément Mateu, CEO of HEXIS SAS.
